CLINICAL DIETITIAN OUTPATIENT PER DIEM
JOB SUMMARY
As a competent practitioner of medical nutrition therapy, provides all aspects of nutrition support to a specialty outpatient pediatric population ranging in age from birth to 18 years of age.
Outpatient populations served include the Healthy Living Academy (weight management), Feeding Clinics, CNR Clinic (Center for Nutritional Rehab) and individual nutrition appointments.
This is a per diem position.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION
Assesses patients' nutritional status
Develops and implements medical nutrition therapy care plans using evidence-based guidelines and best practice.
Provides nutrition counseling and education to patients and caregivers
Documents recommendations for treatment in the patient's electronic medical record according to facility policy
Communicates effectively with coworkers and families to ensure appropriate nutrition care plan is implemented and followed
Participates in interdisciplinary rounds with the medical, nursing and rehab staff
Coordinates care with interdisciplinary team members.
Performs all duties and responsibilities for designated inpatients and ambulatory care patients.
Functions as a member of the multi-disciplinary team to develop, coordinate, implement and evaluate patient's nutritional care plan.
*Completes additional projects designed to benefit or improve the functionality of the Clinical Nutrition Dept
*Complies with all hospital wide and departmental policies and procedures
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Educational Requirements Minimum of a Masters degree in Nutrition, Dietetics or related field. Completion of required coursework, Dietetic Internship and successful passing of the CDR exam are required. If successful passing of the CDR exam prior to 1/1/24, a Bachelors degree with completion of required coursework and Dietetic Internship are required.
Licensure, Certification and Registration - Dietitian licensure in the State of Maryland with maintenance of licensure through required continuing education. Registration with the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics.
Pediatric clinical nutrition experience necessary
Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively and courteously with patients, families and members of the health care team
Ability to lift, move or position patients of varying sizes and weights in order to obtain anthropometric data as needed
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to the Director of Clinical Nutrition for administrative and operational direction
Works cohesively with members of the clinical team to provide optimal nutrition care for all patients
Directs, teaches and guides the Nutrition Assistant staff
INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS
Directly interfaces daily with patients and families, fellow team members, medical providers, nursing staff and other health system staff.
TOOLS/EQUIPMENT USED
Calculator and computer program for calculation of nutrient plan and patient intake, calipers and scale as needed. Personal Computer for documentation in electronic medical records.
PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT/WORKING CONDITIONS
Typical health care environment. Incumbent is expected to use good judgement and employ Universal Precautions when working with patient to reduce/eliminate exposure to communicable disease and infection. Contact with blood and body fluids is not expected on a routine basis. However, contact is possible when performing certain tasks indicated in the essential job functions.
