NUTRITION MANAGER:

The Nutrition Manager is responsible for planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating Nutrition Services for children and their parents under the Head Start component.

The Nutrition Manager is responsible for the development & implementation of the Nutrition Work Plan for the Head Start component.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

*** BS in Home Economics, Nutrition or Food Services with a minimum of two

(2) years experience in children's nutrition programs, purchasing procedures and nutrition education or any combination of education and experience to equal 6 years.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (Not Inclusive):

Responsible for the development and implementation of the Nutrition Work Plan and provides technical assistance to meet the nutritional standards of the program.

Provides necessary education and nutritional counseling for parents.

All activities must be documented.

Develops and implements a plan and system of monitoring and evaluating nutrition activities, and providing staff with feedback.

Provides technical assistance to Head Start staff to ensure that component goals and objectives are monitored and achieved.

Participates in professional activities in order to keep abreast the ever-changing approaches to nutrition and its education.

Prepare, present, and/or coordinate a training program that will develop and improve competencies in nutrition and/or food production, to ensure proficiency in nutrition related areas.

Assists teaching staff plan and provide nutrition related learning experiences in the classroom, by providing guidance, information and classroom materials.

Develops, reviews, and approves menu/meal planning in order to meet guidelines set forth by the Child Care Food Program, Head Start and licensing.

Monitors meal service to assure a high quality feeding program exists.

Collect and compile information provided on meal count forms, in order to prepare Child Care Food Program Reimbursement Form.

Complete monthly Child Care Food Program Reimbursement and forward to Santa Fe.

Direct and coordinate the purchase of equipment, supplies and materials necessary for the operation of the kitchens.

Review inventories requisitions, review, inspect stores, and compare prices, set standards and controls for usage of food, supplies and equipment.

Research and purchase major equipment to maintain standards food quality.

Ensure that all deliveries are received and verified, inventories are current, and proper storage conditions are maintained.

Assists in preparation of the budget and written plans for the nutrition component.

Provides the food service unit with direction in food budgeting, purchasing, storage, preparation, service and the development and implementation of an efficient recordkeeping system.

Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures for the nutrition component.

Counsel, advice, instructs, orientates, interview and provide technical assistance and guidance to nutrition component personnel.

Assist in the planning of future development of the nutrition component.

Provide on-site assistance, upon request to early Childhood Component.

Attend all meetings, as assigned.

Maintain relationships with outside vendors and suppliers.

Prepare, solicit and negotiate contracts for services, supplies and equipment.

Perform and assist in other aspects of the program, as may be assigned by the Deputy Director.

Provides monthly written reports to the Deputy Director on activities of the Nutrition Component in a timely manner.

Other duties as assigned.

JOB CHARACTERISTICS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position is exempt from overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. This is a professional position, which requires organizational and communication skills, as well as judgment, tact and diplomacy in contacts with Head Start employees, community residents, parents and local government agencies.

Strict adherence is required to all regulations concerning confidentiality.

Good general health and ability to lift and carry 55 lbs. are essential.

TB skin test and physical are required at offer to hire. Physical may be required every five years.

Background investigation to include fingerprinting is required.

Frequent travel is required. Proof of valid driver's license and car insurance is required.

Must be able to perform essential job duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
