Nutrition Specialist III- Trainer @ Nutrition

Primary Purpose:

Work under moderate supervision to prepare and serve appropriate quantities of food to meet menu requirements. Maintain high standards of quality in food production, sanitation, and safety practices.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • High School graduate or GED preferred
  • State of Texas or ANSI accredited Food Manager’s Certification required

Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to train new hires
  • Ability to communicate effectively with parents, students and staff
  • Ability to work cooperatively with students/staff/parents
  • Must be available to work until end of the scheduled shift
  • Basic math skills and ability to effectively use a calculator
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to complete tasks in efficient manner, within required time frame.
  • Computer literacy as required for specific tasks
  • Must have great interpersonal skills
  • Ability to train

Experience:

  • One (1) year school food service experience preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Training

  • Train new hires at various facilities following procedures.
  • Must train new hires according to training program.
  • Must attend required training, in-service and work related activities.

Food Preparation and Serving

  • Must fill in at Satellite campuses as needed.
  • Must fill in as short term cook as needed.
  • Must work in various schools as needed.
  • Assist manager with computer work – completing production records & receiving food; counting and recording inventory for P&L; record-keeping for HACCP; component posters, monitoring temperature/time flow charts; filing, answering telephone appropriately.
  • Check and maintain records of food to be “shipped out”, count money, make daily deposits, and cashier.
  • Report violations of policy/procedures to manager.
  • Know and follow all HACCP procedures.
  • Prepare quality food according to a planned menu.
  • Serve food according to meal schedules, departmental policies, and procedures, and practice and promote portion control and proper use of leftovers.
  • Store and handle food items and supplies safely and according to established procedures. Maintain a clean and organized serving area.

Safety and Sanitation

  • Assist in kitchen clean-up in accordance with work schedule.
  • Operate tools and equipment according to prescribed safety standards and follow established procedures. Maintain a clean and organized storage area.
  • Keep work areas neat and sanitary.
  • Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to manager.
  • Maintain personal appearance and hygiene.

Other

  • Must obtain minimum required annual Professional Standard training hours, per USDA regulations.
  • Assist manager with record-keeping.
  • Follow district and departmental policies and procedures as outlined in employee handbook.
  • Must effectively communicate and work well with others.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief.
  • Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed.
  • Perform other duties assigned.
  • Must train new hires according to training program.
  • Must fill in at Satellite campuses as needed.

Evaluation

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of Manual Trades - Nutrition Personnel.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals; district vehicle; large and small kitchen equipment.

Posture: Frequent standing, walking, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, reaching, wrist turning, grasping, finger manipulation and twisting; occasional sitting. Must be able to use step ladder, sweep, mop, and clean equipment

Motion: Repetitive hand motions including frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; frequent reaching

Vision & Hearing : Moderate to Maximum

Lifting and Carrying: Frequent light lifting and carrying on hard surface floors (up to 20 pounds); over 20 pounds must use a cart for transport and ask for assistance to lift case on/off cart

Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; inside 95%; temperature -10 o -130 o F

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions, maintain emotional control under stress

2025-2026 Salary Range Min. $17.15 Mid. $20.47 Max. $23.79 (Based on previous experience)

Salaries are determined by the number of completed and eligible years of service at an accredited school.

Salary is based on 182 days. If working less than 182 days, the salary will be less.
