This role involves supporting the dietary team in maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient kitchen environment while ensuring that meals meet the dietary needs of individuals. The Dietary Aide plays a key role in creating a positive dining experience by ensuring food is served promptly and with care.
Key Responsibilities:
Meal Preparation and Service:
Assist in the preparation of meals and beverages according to established menus and dietary guidelines.
Serve meals to residents or patients, ensuring food is presented in a clean and appealing manner.
Prepare food trays and deliver them to residents’ rooms if needed, following proper procedures for special diets or dietary restrictions.
Dietary Compliance:
Follow resident or patient-specific dietary plans, including special diets such as diabetic, low-sodium, gluten-free, and other medically prescribed diets.
Ensure proper portion control and that meals are prepared and served according to dietary guidelines.
Sanitation and Safety:
Maintain a clean and organized kitchen and dining area, including washing dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment.
Clean and sanitize food preparation areas, tables, and surfaces before and after each meal service.
Follow all food safety guidelines, including proper storage, labeling, and handling of food items.
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations regarding food service and kitchen sanitation.
Inventory and Supplies:
Assist in receiving and storing food supplies and kitchen inventory.
Monitor food supplies and notify the dietary manager of any shortages or items needed.
Rotate stock to ensure freshness and minimize waste.
Resident and Customer Interaction:
Interact courteously and professionally with residents, patients, and staff, addressing their needs and preferences.
Assist in setting up and clearing dining areas, ensuring residents and patients have an enjoyable dining experience.
Communicate effectively with dietary staff and healthcare providers about any special dietary needs or concerns.
Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Previous experience in food service or healthcare is preferred but not required.
Skills:
Ability to follow dietary guidelines and meal plans.
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
Good interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks efficiently.
Basic understanding of food safety and sanitation procedures.
