Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree in foods and nutrition, Food Science, dietetics, or related field, required
Registered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration and Licensed by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Dietitians, required
Current Food Handler/Food Manager Certification, required
A minimum of 12 hours of continuing professional education development annually, required
Proficiency in Computers and Microsoft Office, required
Ability to implement policy and procedures, required
Proficiency in English and Spanish, preferred
Strong written, oral and presentation skills, required
Three years in diet modification, menu planning, food purchasing, food production records, preparation, and service
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of the Texas Department of Agriculture and (TDA) and/or Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) Nutrition Program Guidelines.
Knowledge of menu planning, food purchasing, and quality food preparation
Knowledge of K-12 food service software including point of sale and back office management modules
Health and safety rules and regulations pertaining to Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) principles.
Ability to manage budget and personnel
Occasional district-wide travel; occasional prolonged and irregular hours
Review and interpret highly technical information, write technical materials, and/or speak persuasively to implement desired actions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions
Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include pertinent laws, codes, policies and/or regulations; personnel processes; standard business practices; program planning and development; and concepts of quantity cooking and nutritional analysis

Experience:
A minimun of three years of managerial experience in a K-12 school district food & nutrition services environment or five years of experience in food service management Description Primary Purpose:
The Registered Dietitian assists with the coordination and supervision of the Food & Nutrition Services Department and services for Weslaco ISD with a focus on menu planning, food production, nutrition education, diet modifications and marketing of programs. Supervision of the operation to ensure compliance with federal, state, local and district regulations and policies. Responsibilities include training employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems. Assumes lead role in the Food & Nutrition Services operations in the absence of the Assistant Food & Nutrition Services Director.
