RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Accurately prepare patient trays by following diet sheets and menu plans.
  • Ensure timely and appropriate delivery of meals to patients in both Acute Care and Long Term Care units.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and healthcare staff regarding dietary needs.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of food prep and service areas.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and compassion in all patient interactions.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Prior foodservice experience preferred, but not required.
  • Must obtain a State of Alaska Food Workers Card within 30 days of hire.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding role, including lifting heavy objects.
  • Strong personal hygiene and professional appearance.
  • Ability to follow diet orders and procedures with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Physical Requirement: Must be able to lift heavy items, work on feet for extended periods, and handle frequent physical activity.

ENVIRONMENT:

The South Peninsula Hospital is a combined 22-bed Acute Care Critical Access Hospital and 28-bed Long Term Care facility located at the southern end of the Kenai Peninsula in South-Central Alaska. The Dietary Aide/Host/Hostess works in both kitchen and patient care areas, and may be exposed to food, steam, grease, cleaning chemicals, and varying temperatures.

Hazards include risk of cuts, falls, burns, back strain, and exposure to sharps and bodily fluids. This position includes rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and early or late hours.
