JOB TITLE: Food Service Director
JOB DESCRIPTION: U SD 320 is currently accepting applications for a District Food Service Director. This is a 12- month position. The schedule will be full-time- 40 hours per week- during the 12 months of July through June . This position entails overseeing and managing the daily operations of School Nutrition Programs at our district student attendance centers. Duties will include menu d evelopment in compliance with USDA and state guidelines- cost and inventory controls- management of staff- accurate accounting practices- and communications with district staff- parents- students- and patrons . The vacancy is for the 2026-2027 school year and will remain open until filled. Responsibilities
  • JOB GOAL: To supervise and coordinate food services to ensure proper nutrition and safeguard the health of students- staff- and visitors
  • RESPONSIBLE TO: Superintendent

  • Support the district`s vision- mission- and values
  • Implement all policies and statutes as determined by various governmental agencies- the Kansas State Department of Education- and the local board of education
  • Operate all equipment appropriately as required
  • Attend job-related training classes and train and evaluate employees under his/her direct supervision
  • Responsible for the daily operation of the kitchen- including the ordering of supplies- being involved in the daily preparation of meals- and assisting where needed
  • Practice procedures in food preparation- use and care of equipment and personal habits to be sure sanitation standards are met
  • Follow standards of safety in storing and serving food
  • Set work schedules for cooks- verify and submit timesheets to payroll
  • Maintain a required system of accountability by managing the program in accordance with federal- state- and local requirements
  • Keep accurate count of all lunches (i.e.- paid- free- reduced- and adult) and be responsible for accurate daily deposits
  • Use Nutrition Analysis software to plan and maintain menus.
  • Submit monthly report to the BOE.
  • Submit monthly claims.
  • Work with the principal in scheduling meal periods
  • Participate in implementing cost-containment measures while maintaining quality
  • Respond to information requests in a cooperative- courteous- and timely manner
  • Communicate and work effectively and cooperatively with members of the school district and community
  • React to change and frequent interruptions in a productive and positive manner- meeting deadlines as assigned
  • Attend appropriate committee and staff meetings as required
  • Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as directed by the superintendent

USD 320 is seeking a qualified and motivated Food Service Director to lead and manage the districts School Nutrition Program. This position is responsible for overseeing daily food service operations across all attendance centers while ensuring compliance with federal- state- and local regulations. The director will support student health and wellness by providing high-quality- nutritious meals in a safe and efficient environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Oversee and manage daily operations of district food service programs

  • Develop menus in compliance with USDA and state guidelines

  • Ensure food safety- sanitation- and nutrition standards are met

  • Manage food service staff- including hiring- training- scheduling- and evaluation

  • Maintain accurate financial records- meal counts- and daily deposits

  • Monitor inventory- order supplies- and manage cost controls

  • Collaborate with district administrators- staff- students- and community members

  • Prepare required reports and maintain program accountability in accordance with regulations

  • Support district wellness initiatives and nutrition education efforts

QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma required - bachelor`s or associate degree preferred

  • Minimum of two (2) years of relevant supervisory or food service experience

  • School Nutrition Association certification (or ability to obtain within first year)

  • Strong organizational- communication- and leadership skills

  • Proficiency with computers- including Microsoft Office and food service/POS systems

  • Knowledge of food safety regulations and school nutrition program requirements preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

  • Prolonged standing- walking- bending- and lifting

  • Ability to work in kitchen environments with heat- noise- and food service equipment

  • Frequent use of hands for food preparation and computer tasks
