THIS IS A GRANT-FUNDED POSITION ENDING SEPTEMBER 2026.

The Pima County Health Department, Women Infants and Children program (WIC), is seeking a motivated and team-orientated Medium Risk Nutritionist to join our team.

This position provides client centered nutrition and breastfeeding services to program participants. Additional duties include conducting WIC certifications, medium risk counseling, and obtaining anthropometric and hemoglobin levels for WIC participants. The ideal candidate will possess excellent interpersonal communication and listening skills.

Essential Function:

  • Assists in the development of health education programs, curricula, and materials tailored to the needs of the target population;

  • Collaborates with senior educators to design engaging and evidence-based educational content;

  • Conducts health education sessions, workshops, and presentations in various community settings, including schools, clinics, and community centers;

  • Utilizes effective teaching methods to engage participants and convey health information;

  • Maintains an organized inventory of educational materials;

  • Collaborates with community partners to coordinate health promotion events and initiatives;

  • Engages in community outreach to raise awareness of public health issues and available resources;

  • Assists in the preparation of reports and assessments to evaluate program outcomes;

  • Maintains accurate records of program participants, attendance, and evaluation data.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associates degree from an accredited college or university AND one year of experience providing health education.

(Relevant experience may be substituted for education and education from an accredited college or university may be substituted by relevant experience.)

OR:

One year of experience serving as a Community Health Worker II or equivalent classification as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment.

Preferred Qualifications : (Be specific in describing your experience in your application. Ensure the descriptions provided illustrate your competencies, specifically addressing the required and preferred qualifications.):

  • Minimum of a bachelors degree from an accredited institution in Nutritional Sciences, Community Nutrition, Clinical Nutrition, Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition, Home Economics with emphasis in Nutrition, or related field certification as determined by the department.

  • Minimum one (1) year experience in nutrition education counseling in a maternal/child or clinical setting, including the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program.

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Selection Procedure:

Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources. A dditional assessments/testing may be r equired as part of the selection process .

Supplemental Information:

Licenses and Certificates : V alid driver license is required at time of application. Valid AZ driver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicants suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services review and approval of the candidates driving record .

Special Notice Items: Department of Labor regulation CFR Part 1910.1030 requires notification that this category may have a low risk of exposure to blood-borne pathogens. In accordance with OSHA and Pima County guidelines Tuberculin (TB) screening, Hepatitis B vaccinations and safety training and equipment will be provided as applicable. The County requires pre-employment background checks. Successful candidates will receive a post-offer, pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history, education, and criminal conviction history. A prior criminal conviction will not automatically disqualify a candidate from employment with the County.

Physical/Sensory Requirements: Constantly required to exchange accurate information. Constantly uses fine motor skills to utilize computer equipment and healthcare equipment. Constantly required to observe details at close range. Occasionally required to move equipment weighing up to 25 pounds. Occasionally operates a motor vehicle safely and legally, in accordance with applicable state and federal transportation laws.

Working Conditions: Occasionally exposed to hazardous fluids. Occasionally exposed to the risk of needlesticks and exposure to communicable diseases.
