Job Summary
Plan and prepare appealing and nutritious meals for children, students and employees of the DMACC Child Development Center.
Essential Functions
Plan, post, maintain and prepare menus for Child Development Center in accordance to CACFP and Iowa Licensing Standards. This includes using the Iowa Child and Adult Food Care Program guidelines/food production records and maintain accurate meal count records. Complete required paperwork as deemed by regulatory agency and administrator of Child Development Center.
Maintain inventory of food supplies, paper products and serving utensils for preparation and serving of snacks and meals. This includes monitoring storage and expiration dates to ensure foods are served and stored safely. Plan and purchase food supplies from wholesale vendors and local grocery stores. Date, inventory, and stock supplies purchased. Collect and maintain all food invoices, MSD sheets and packing slips for record keeping systems. Package and label leftover food items so that they can be used in food production as designated by state guidelines.
Clean and maintain kitchen equipment, utensils, table service, floors, work areas and food carts.
Provide work direction and mentor kitchen support staff.
Plan, implement and evaluate nutritional activities for children and families.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
One year of experience in quantity food preparation that included purchasing responsibilities. (Completion of amercial cooking program may substitute for experience.)
Ability to read and understand written recipes, menus, nourishment labels, portioning sheets and/or policies and prores.
Ability to perform basic mathematics in the calculation or conversion of units of measure when determining proper amounts of food ingredients in quantity food production.
Ability to meet state licensing requirements, including: DCI check, Child Abuse Registry check, medical exam with update every three years, etc.
Ability to interact effectively, courteously and impartially with varied populations.
Desired Qualifications
Culinary Arts diploma and/or Dietary Management degree.
Knowledge of CACFP.
Physical Requirements
Maximum:
Horizontal push/pull force of 20 lbs for 150 ft.
Maximum Occasional:
Lift of 50 lbs floor to knuckle
Lift of 10 lbs shoulder to overhead
