DSHS WSH Dietitian

DSHS has a great career opportunity for a Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist to use their passion for food and dietetics in Lakewood, WA. If you are a dietitian looking to utilize your clinical nutrition skills to impact our community, this fantastic opportunity is for you!

This job performs professional level nutrition assessments, counseling and education and provides medical nutritional therapy in an institutional psychiatric setting. This position has the option of a 4/10 schedule, weekends and holidays off, and up to 1 telework day per week.

This role is great for entry level dietitians as well as seasoned dietitians with an interest in psychiatric populations. You will have the support of a large team of dietitians as well as time to get to know their patients. You will have the opportunity to learn from the multidisciplinary teams and will be presented with unique patient cases.

Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary

Some of what you will do:

  • Assess nutrition status and provide care using the Nutrition Care Process for our diverse psychiatric patient population
  • Recommend appropriate interventions including therapeutic diet orders, oral supplements, and enteral nutrition orders
  • Monitor patient response to interventions and individual progress
  • Evaluate and monitor nutritional status and update plan of care
  • Design and provide nutrition education to patients individually and in group settings
  • Promote optimal patient health at the individual patient level and hospital-wide
  • Participate in the planning of nutritionally adequate menus
  • Participate in department meetings and communicate with the care team and peers
  • Help mediate food services for patient care
  • Help facilitate community nutrition inpatient care areas

What we're looking for:

  • Knowledge of principles of medical nutrition therapy
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge via continuing education and current dietitian credentials
  • Knowledge of computer software, information systems, networks, and platforms
  • Skills in working with confidential client information
  • Ability to instruct others
  • Effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with food service and clinical teams

Who should apply?

Professionals with a bachelor's degree with a major in Dietetics and Nutrition and completion of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics education program

Registered Dietitian status: 24 months of recent full-time experience as an RDN
