Primary Responsibilities vary according to patient population, inpatient or community, and location.

  • Assesses the nutritional status of individuals by obtaining and/or evaluating anthropometric measurements, biochemical tests, clinical, dietary, economic and social data and provides all appropriate related documentation
  • Participates in the development, implementation and interpretation of nutrition policies, procedures and standards of care within areas of responsibility
  • Serves as contact person for specialized nutrition services within a designated area
  • Conducts quality assurance reviews, evaluates outcomes and recommends or implements cooperative action when necessary
  • Provides consultation and assistance to medical and other professional personnel on the diagnosis and treatment of nutrition disorders. Provides in-service training for staff within a specialized program or units of state agencies
  • Maintains appropriate credentials for practices, to include developing and maintaining age-specific competencies
  • Participates in the orientation and professional development of nutrition staff. Participates in planning, supervising, and evaluating public health field experiences of dietetic students

Required Qualifications

A bachelor's degree in nutrition, dietetics or community nutrition and experience in a clinical, public health or institutional setting; or a bachelor's degree in any field and registration by the Commission on Dietetic Registration and experience in a clinical, public health or institutional setting. Must have a South Carolina Dietitian license.

Preferred Qualifications

A master's degree in public health nutrition, community nutrition, dietetics or nutrition with three (3) years of experience in a related field; or a bachelor's degree in nutrition dietetics or community nutrition and experience in a clinical public health or institutional setting or four (4) years of experience in a related field.
