Job Title: Diabetes Educator (Non-Certified) - Registered Nurse Company: Crouse Hospital Location: Syracuse, NY Description: Job Details: RN required 2-5 years of experience required The RN Diabetic Educator is responsible for providing education instruction to individuals with diagnosis of hyperglycemia or diabetes. The RN will establish a teaching plan based on ADA guidelines. The goal of the teaching educator is to enhance the individual's disease self management. This is enacted through the roles of teacher, facilitator and resource person. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Ensures that he/she cultivates a climate supportive of the Hospital's mission, vision, and values. 2. Commits to a customer service oriented culture within his/her area which includes service orientation to work processes, staff customer service and actively participates and supports development of key customer service outcomes. 3. Assesses and implements teaching strategies to facilitate learning and informed decision-making for individuals and family units. 4. Collects data related to the educational needs of the learner throughout the series and evaluates and discusses with certified Diabetic Educator. 5. Communicates clearly the objectives and goals of the Diabetes Education Program and provides education based on the scientific principles of nursing and clinical practice. 6. Demonstrates skill and knowledge using a variety of teachingstrategies to facilitate group process/discussion and independent learning. 7. Attends staff meetings on a regular basis to give input related to ongoing evaluation and program development. 8. Participates in continuing education programs to promote professional development and current knowledge in maternal/child nursing education. 9. Maintains competency as a practitioner of nursing. JOB REQUIREMENTS 1.Current New York State nursing license 2.Bachelor's Degree required 3.ADA certification in progress with expectation to complete certification exam within 12 months. 4.Current CPR certification 5.Recent clinical experience in nursing 6.Demonstrated competency in the teaching/learning process.
